Chenille Fabric 101

David Raminfard is a successful and self-made entrepreneur in the fabric industry. David is proud to serve as the CEO & President of KasLen Textiles, a prosperous textile wholesale company located in Vernon, CA. David is an expert in the available types of fabrics in the market. One fabric that he knows extensively about is chenilles.

Chenille fabrics are versatile, mostly heavy, and one of the best options out there for upholstery projects. They are made out of polyester or poly-blend yarns that are woven to give a smooth even surface or a more chunky, velvety textured look. Because Chenilles resist pilling and wrinkling, Chenilles are ideal for decorating a project that requires durable fabric. Due to the velvety feel of Chenille fabrics, Chenilles look luxurious, elegant, and expensive. The demand for Chenille fabric has largely surged in the last few years.

It is also interesting to note the history of Chenille fabrics. According to historians, Chenille-type yarn is not that old of an invention, dating to the 18th century and believed to have originated in France. The man credited with introducing Chenille fabric to Scotland in the 1830s is Alexander Buchanan. He was a foreman in a Paisley fabric mill.
